Ellen
Slupe is a professional artist who works primarily in acrylics and mixed
media. She holds a BFA from Millersville University, and while there received the
Hustead Art History Award.
When we asked Ellen for an Artist Statement, she replied
with the following: "So much of who we are is through process and
layers. There are layers of heritage, ideology, knowledge, and life's
experiences that continually shape us. My art is about process and layers,
not as autobiography, but as metaphor. And not as a woven fabric or outer
shell to contain, but as layering that retains the past while defining the
present. I explore the layering process in figurative genre and in
abstract images."
As for exhibitions of her
work, Ellen holds to her credit numerous solo and group exhibits, as well as
participation in regional and national Juried Shows. In July 2001 she exhibited with eighteen international artists in an
invitational exhibit in Venice, Italy. Her art was selected for the "Art of
the State 2001 Exhibit" in The State Museum, Harrisburg, PA.
